This rehabilitation project, 7 years in the making, is a blend of energy efficiency, materials re-use and artistry.
The formerly derelict 1800s structure attained a Tier 2 energy Star rating in 2010. Key features include a 3.15 Kw PV array, radiant floor heat with an inexpensive hot water heater and passive solar with cement slab. The now open and cathedraled space is designed to facilitate heat circulation and a healthy interior. The shell is foam insulated with structural insulated panels on the roof. The building was renovated with almost no VOC finishes and extensive use of natural wood, recycled lumber and fixtures.
